For people who are not free, freedom is always their biggest wish, for those who are, it’s their biggest luxury.
I think we can all agree that freedom is always positive. I wouldn’t disagree with that for a second.
But I think, at the same time, it is not always an easy thing to have. Much, much worse to not have, of course - but still…
As a little child I never thought about, wether I‘m free or not. All that mattered to me, was being happy. When I stumbled over the word „freedom“, I thought about the birds in our tiny little garden. They could fly whereever they want, or just stay where they are and I didn’t see a problem with that. To me it seemed so easy – for me it was so desirable.
When I grew older, I became free as well.
Now, I have the freedom to make my own decisions and determine my way to live. I can go whereever I want, or just stay where I am.
But now, for the first time in my life, I do see a problem with that.
If you still don’t know where you want to fly - all the sudden - flying seems pretty scary. Because not many things are worse than the fear of ending up somewhere, you never wanted to be.
Sometimes even today I think that is one of the reasons why the birds in our tiny little garden are still there. Because sometimes our fear makes us believe that comfortability is enough.
I think, once in a while we should listen to our children, because surprisingly they often know, how life really is and not how it should be.
Because maybe, it doesn’t really matter, if our decisions are always the right ones. And maybe, it is not even important to be 100% free all the time.
As simple as it sounds, maybe, it’s just about being happy, even if it’s just for a beat of a wing.
