The Perks of Being Happy

There is this quote in one of my favourite movies „ The perks of being a wallflower“. It says:
“We accept the love we think we deserve.”
In the movie it’s mostly meant in a negative way. As in, if you think less of yourself or don’t appreciate yourself enough, you will only accept love that is bad for you and not at all what you may really deserve. And that is true, but

if you ask me, it can be the other way round as well. It can be kind of a positive thing. If you think highly of yourself and you truly like and respect yourself and maybe you are even a little bit proud of yourself, in an unconceived way, than this quote is a good thing. Because I don’t think any of us should accept anything less.

The whole “lower-your-expectation” talk seems a little bit odd to me. Of course, life is nothing like a movie and love is not quite like music. So, we for sure can’t expect anything greater than reality or anything brighter than life, but we can insist, that we find something that makes the reality of life a little bit more beautiful.

Maybe it’s allowed to overhear people sometimes, who call you "picky" or ignore the line “pick one before the good ones are gone”. Nobody should care. You should not care about that too much. You should care about who you are and what kind of person you want to be. If you are happy with that, and I hope you are, you should realize that you really deserve almost everything and then you should look for everything. You should not accept less.

I am single for a long time now, so I can’t say that this concept works necessary, but I can say that the majority of time I am really, really happy with myself. I am not sad, sometimes I may be lonely but, you know, not more than the next person. Believe it or not, you can indeed be happy "on your own".

I, nevertheless, don't doubt that the right love is out there and I do hope I can find it or that it finds me someday, however you want to look at it. But the important thing is that it is the RIGHT love for me. You shouldn’t be in a relationship only so you are in a relationship, the same way as you shouldn’t be single only so you can say you are single. You should do it so you can say you are happy.

Look for love, that doesn’t necessary makes you better, but one that doesn’t change you for the worse.

"We accept the love, we think we deserve"
I truly hope, while thinking of ourselves, we always remember, we deserve a lot!

HEY PEOPLE OF THE INTERNET

Hey people of the internet - maybe I should introduce myself.
My name is Christina, I'm 20 years old and currently at university.
In "real life" I'm a very relaxed and maybe even funny person... at least once in a while.
People who don't know me very well, would probably never think I'm philosophical or deep at all. BUT I AM! No just kidding, but I have quite a lot of random thoughts in my head, that I would like to share.
Nevertheless, going around in "real life", talking to strangers about freedom and what life is really about, seems, I have to admit, a bit awkward to me.
I somehow don't feel the need to sit down next to strangers in the park and tell them my personal thoughts about the birds in the trees and that they symbolies freedom to me.
But this is the internet. And on the internet things are different.
So I believe, that in the universe of strange fanfic-tumblr-blogs and cat pictures, a sprinkle of deepness in our lifes wouldn't hurt.

I don't want you to think that I know what life is all about, because believe me... I don't.
I just want to share my random thoughts about some random things with you - because I have a lot of them and they need an output.

So if you are like me and enjoy some randomness... maybe this blog is something for you.

Sincerly your Hedgehog.

The Big Word "FREEDOM"

For people who are not free, freedom is always their biggest wish, for those who are, it’s their biggest luxury.
I think we can all agree that freedom is always positive. I wouldn’t disagree with that for a second.
But I think, at the same time, it is not always an easy thing to have. Much, much worse to not have, of course - but still…

As a little child I never thought about, wether I‘m free or not. All that mattered to me, was being happy. When I stumbled over the word „freedom“, I thought about the birds in our tiny little garden. They could fly whereever they want, or just stay where they are and I didn’t see a problem with that. To me it seemed so easy – for me it was so desirable.

When I grew older, I became free as well.
Now, I have the freedom to make my own decisions and determine my way to live. I can go whereever I want, or just stay where I am.
But now, for the first time in my life, I do see a problem with that.
If you still don’t know where you want to fly - all the sudden - flying seems pretty scary.  Because not many things are worse than the fear of ending up somewhere, you never wanted to be.
Sometimes even today I think that is one of the reasons why the birds in our tiny little garden are still there. Because sometimes our fear makes us believe that comfortability is enough.

I think, once in a while we should listen to our children, because surprisingly they often know, how life really is and not how it should be.
Because maybe, it doesn’t really matter, if our decisions are always the right ones. And maybe, it is not even important to be 100% free all the time.
As simple as it sounds, maybe, it’s just about being happy, even if it’s just for a beat of a wing.
